Jubilees and Professions at Hanga Abbey, 2016

This year 2016, the monks of Hanga Abbey have the joy of congratulating three monks celebrating their 25th anniversaries, three monks making their solemn perpetual vows, and seven confreres making their first monastic profession. The occasion took place on Thursday August 25 at the abbey. Abbot Octavian Massingo, OSB, presided and preached at the ceremony mass.
Celebrating their jubilee  year of monastic life were Fr. Salvatory Ngimbudzi, OSB, and Fr. Chrisostom Mukulasi, OSB; whereas Fr. Angelo Mugaga Mselle, OSB, celebrated his 25th priesthood anniversary. Frater Edgar Mwalongo, OSB, Frater Boniface Sanga, OSB, and Frater Fraternus Muhwajuki, OSB, made their final solemn profession.

Lighano Monastery Gets New Members Formed at Hanga Abbey

St. Paul Lighano Monastery in the archdiocese of Songea is a monastery under the archbishop. This August 13 the community had a blessing of two young men becoming members of the community by making their first monastic profession. The Brothers are John Paul Tawa and Stephano Miteka. The two Brothers had part of their Novitiate formation at Hanga Abbey. Indeed the monks of Hanga are happy and proud to be able to offer such formation to them.

At the profession ceremony the local archbishop  Damian Dallu of the archdiocese of Songea officiated. Many people attended the ceremony including representatives from all religious communities in archdiocese of Songea. Thanks to the archbishop for his great support to this young community in the archdiocese; and congratulations to Bothers John Paul and Stephano and the community of Lighano Monastery.

St. Laurent School at Hanga Abbey Cebrating Graduation

Standard Seven pupils at Hanga Abbey St. Laurent school had their graduation ceremony on the 13th August. It is was the 9th graduation at the school since its establishment. A total of 46 pupils graduated. Later on in September they will be sitting for their final national examinations. Obviously many parents, friends and relatives of the pupils attended the celebration. The day began with Holy Mass, followed by dances, dramas, and singing at the school compound. Best wishes to the graduating class in their final examinations.

Hanga Abbey Gets a New Priest

On August 3rd, 2016 the monks of Hanga Abbey had a blessing of having one of their monks being ordained to priesthood. Fr. Bernard Mwanza, OSB, from Zambia, was ordained at a daughter house of Hanga Abbey, Ktibunga monastery in Zambia. Fr. Bernard was ordained by the local bishop of Mpika diocese, bishop Justine Mlenga. The ordination ceremony was well attended by people around Katibunga and several others from Tanzania including the monks of Hanga Abbey. The retired abbot of Hanga, Abbot Thadei Mhagama, OSB, led the group of monks from Hanga to Katibunga for the ceremony.

Congratulations to Fr. Bernard Mwanza for accepting the call to serve the Lord in his field.
